MRC Legal Counsel

Manufacturers Rep Council retains independent legal counsel to provide manufacturers agents with legal advice on issues ranging from contracts to collections. Steven Mitchell Sack, an attorney specializing in manufacturers representative legal issues, provides services to the MRC members.

Sack maintains a private law practice in New York City devoted primarily to severance negotiations of terminated workers and executives, discrimination lawsuits, contract negotiations and general labor law.

Sack has appeared as a guest on many national television and radio talk programs including: "The Oprah Winfrey Show," "CNN News" and "AM Chicago" He has also authored books such as The Salesperson's Legal Guide, Don't Get Taken!: How to Avoid Common Consumer Rip-Offs, and many more.

Here are some ways MRC members can utilize the services of Steven Sack:

• Members should call him before taking on a new product line or even when dropping an old one. And because Sack is a telephone call away, there's really no drawback in consulting him before making decisions that may affect your business. Reps need to be business savvy but they can't be expected to always be up on all of the current laws and regulations governing their businesses, so a consultation with Sack may save time, money and future headaches spurned by an "uninformed decision."
• Contract review. As part of the agreement with MRC, Sack will review and advise on all contracts received by an MRC member at no cost--all reps have to do is ask. One of the other more common questions regards what every independent business dreads: collecting commissions. Sack is there to provide advice on how to best collect on delinquent accounts, when and how to proceed with litigation, and most importantly, how to prevent your company from getting into a position where collections become a major concern.
• Prevention (Seeking legal advice before council is needed). Often when it is determined that legal representation is necessary it is in simultaneous recognition of a legal problem that, ultimately, could have been prevented if, before the need arose, the appropriate advice was sought out. MRC believes that because its members deal daily with encompassing legal issues, the services of Sack are one of the most valuable benefits of membership in MRC.
