Peter MacGillivray, VP, Events and Communications
Peter MacGillivray heads up the communications and events programs for SEMA. This role includes oversight of the association’s public relations and publications, which includes a monthly print magazine SEMA News and a weekly electronic newsletter SEMA eNews.
MacGillivray also leads the association’s show department, which organizes the annual SEMA Show in Las Vegas and several regional trade shows, international shows and special events throughout the year. Since MacGillivray joined SEMA in September 2001, both SEMA membership and the SEMA Show have grown tremendously. Membership went from 4,618 in 2001, to 7,094 in 2007, while the SEMA Show saw more than 2,220 exhibitors and more than 130,000 attendees in 2007, up from 1,282 exhibitors and 69,353 attendees in 2001.
Prior to joining SEMA, MacGillivray was publisher of Super Street magazine at Emap USA. There, he was responsible for all of Super Street’s tours and consumer events, including the National Import Racing Association (NIRA), the Super Street tour to the NOPI Nationals, the Spring Break in Daytona events and licensing.
Having graduated with a journalism degree from Boston University, MacGillivray possess a great deal of editorial experience as well. He has served as both publisher and editor for various auto and boating enthusiast publications, including street truck, off-road, and sport compact performance titles.
Besides working in the industry, MacGillivray is an industry enthusiast. He has competed in off-road racing, being a member of the U.S. team in the Camel Trophy rally competitions for two years. He also participated in the Baja 1000. MacGillivray’s other passions include golf, photography and his family.
